Vyas, a 1977 batch officer of Indian Foreign Service, is currently Secretary (Economic Relations) in the MEA.
The appointment is necessitated following superannuation of Ganapathi, IFS (75) on December 31.
The Appointments Committee of Cabinet led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has also approved appointment of Pinak R Chakravarty as Secretary (Economic Relations), an official release said today.
Chakravarty, also a 1977 batch IFS officer, is presently Special Secretary (Public Diplomacy).
The ACC has also appointed Shobhana Joshi as Additional Secretary in Defence Ministry.
Joshi, a 1979 batch officer of Indian Defence Accounts Service, is presently Additional Financial Adviser and Joint Secretary, Ministry of Defence.
Joshi will also be Financial Adviser (Acquisition) and Member (Defence Procurement Board), the release said.
The vacancy had come up following retirement of Amit Cowshish.
