Survey claims BJP will be single largest party in Delhi polls

BJP is likely to emerge as the single largest party in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections but will remain short of majority, a survey claimed today.
BJP is likely to get 32 seats, which is four short of absolute majority, while Congress is expected to win 27 seats in the 70-member assembly.
"Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would gain from Congress and BJP and is likely to win eight seats, while BSP would hold onto two and others would manage only one seat," ABP News-Nielson's "Mood of the nation" survey said.
Corruption, inflation and unemployments were likely to drive political agenda in the polls. Performance of Sheila Dikshit and Congress was rated as poor, with Dikshit getting a score of 2.62.

About 45 per cent respondents rated Dikshit's performance as poor or very poor while 26 per cent saw BJP's Vijay Goel as a suitable chief ministerial candidate. Kejriwal got 24 per cent vote share while Dikshit had the support of 22 per cent.
"About 66 per cent of the respondents don't want the Congress government back in power as 44 per cent said that performance of present Sheila Dikshit government's performance in last five years was poor or very poor and the score was higher (50 per cent) among the younger generation.

"More than half of total respondents said that Congress government should not get another chance and 74 per cent youth had this opinion," it said.

The survey was conducted between August 14 and 20 in which 7084 respondents, all eligible voters aged 18 years and above and had their names registered in the voter's list, took part.
It was found that the Congress government has failed to establish a connect with the younger generation of 18-23 years. They (43 per cent) claimed that life has become worse for them.
Welfare of girl child and women, deteriorating law and order situation, reduced employment opportunities and poverty were some of the reasons to penalise the city government the younger generation did not favour the young generation.
The study found that around 36 per cent of Congress voters may switch to BJP on the grounds of the party's inability to contain inflation and 28 per cent for failure to stop increasing corruption.

The respondents considered AAP as a party which can bring down corruption while BJP was perceived as the party which can control inflation.
"However, the BJP still faces an issue of projecting credible leaders as 28 per cent were likely to switch their voting intention from BJP to AAP because of leadership issue. It was observed that BJP would be able to hold its loyalist to some extent," the survey said.
