Tamil Nadu mulling hybrid power projects

As part of generating more renewable energy, state government has undertaken a feasibility study on solar-wind hybrid power project, a first of its kind initiative in the country, a top official of Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency said today.
"TEDA will be putting it up (the projects). Right now we are doing a study on it. In India this will be the first time. We expect solar and wind farms will be replicating it (once it becomes successful)" TEDA Chairman Sudeep Jain told reporters.
He said respective government orders were issued for the concept and TEDA would undertake a detailed study on the project that was expected to come up in Tirunelveli district.

The energy generated from it would be connected to the grid, he said.
On the performance of renewable energy, he said Tamil Nadu holds the top slot and the total installed capacity as on March 31, 2014 stood at 8,326.86MW.
Wind energy continued to remain in top slot with 7,252.60 MW, bagasse at 659.40MW, biomass power at 211 MW, solar 96.66 MW, small hydro 107.20 MW, he said.
Referring to the third edition of RENERGY 2014 scheduled to be held between June 12 and 14 at Chennai Trade Centre, he said over 200 exhibitors would be participating in the event.

"What are the policy-regulatory factors that are needed by government, workshops on innovative models on renewable energy will be discussed during the event," he said.
