India's largest software services firm TCS has signed a deal with Telenor Norway to modernise and simplify the telecom major's fixed network operations.
The goal is to improve customer experience through reduced complexity and faster deliveries, Telenor said in a statement.
No financial details of the deal were disclosed.
Since 2010, TCS has been been working with Telenor Norway, becoming one of the two main IT services firms (applications management and systems development) for the global telecom firm.
Telenor Norway has launched a long-term effort to modernise and simplify products, processes and related IT systems in the fixed area and the contract to bring TCS onboard as a partner was signed yesterday.
This is one of the largest change programmes in recent history for Telenor Norway and the agreement with TCS represents an important milestone, company CEO Berit Svendsen said.
"They have the expertise and the methodology we need to simplify work processes, products and IT solutions to the fixed network area," Svendsen added.
The aim is to provide customers with better experiences, with improved quality and faster deliveries, while reducing costs, he said.
Telenor invests over 4 billion NOK in infrastructure and services in Norway.
"Use patterns are changing and we see that data usage is growing rapidly and already more important than the voice of our customers. The competition is international, where global content providers are strong competitors," he said.
Svendsen added that while the company is experiencing reduced customer base for traditional fixed line services, costs, however, do not fall at the same rate.
"Therefore, we are now in partnership with TCS radically changing our entire fixed network operations in both voice and broadband," he said.
Sigve Brekke, Head of Telenor Asia operations, said the company wants to ensure that its international markets also opens up for its Indian business partners just as India is emerging as a promising mass market opportunity for the Telenor Group.
Telenor Norway and TCS had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in March this year and has spent the time since then to the preparation and analysis of IT solutions, products and work processes.
"The parties are now ready to start detailing the design and transformation of the fixed network. The work will continue until 2018," Telenor said.
