A seven-member team of physically challenged people, including a duo who had fought in the Kargil war, today started on a trek to Kedarnath.
Flagging off the trek from his residence in Bijapur, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat said he saluted the team's courage and added that their journey will send a message to the world that the road to Kedarnath is safe and secure.
The participants will cover a distance of 19 km from Sonprayag to Kedarnath base camp. They will reach the shrine on April 24, when the doors of the temple are to be thrown open to pilgrims.
Two members of the team, Rajendra Tanwar and GC Gurung, had participated in the Kargil war where they had lost their legs. Another member, Rakesh Lal, had lost his legs in the devastating floods which ravaged Kedarnath in 2013.
The other members of the trekking team are Suranjan Singh, Laxmi Prasad, Dinesh Bijalwan and Dhirendra Singh.
