The Telangana government today constituted a panel to make recommendations for implementing its decision to teach Telugu as a 'compulsory subject' from class I to XII in all educational institutions in the state.
"...The Adviser to Government, Tourism & Culture Department has informed that the CM has directed to take necessary action to teach Telugu as 'compulsory subject' from class I to class XII in all the educational institutions in the state, from the next academic year of 2018-19," a Government Order (GO) issued today said.
A meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Education on October 27 decided to constitute a sub-committee to examine and analyse the entire issue and furnish their recommendations to the government, the GO said.
The panel comprises Potti Sree Ramulu Telugu University Vice-Chancellor SV Satyanarayana and others.
The committee should examine the existing acts, rules, guidelines in the state pertaining to the state syllabus schools and CBSE/ICSE/IB schools and the Board of Intermediate Education regarding the existing 'Three Language Formula' and its implementation in schools and junior colleges, it said.
"They may study the pattern of the other states i.e. their acts/ rules and implementation / practices such as in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Punjab and West Bengal, since these states are understood to have implemented their regional language as 'compulsory' in these educational institutions," the GO said.
The panel should furnish its report, along with recommendations to the government by November 15, it added.
