Tewari, in a letter to Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, said Sarabha's contribution to the independence struggle was exceptional and unparallelled, and needed to be recognised and acknowledged in the same measure.
Paying tributes to Sarabha on the eve of his 98th martyrdom day, Tewari also sought renaming of Pakhowal Road after the freedom fighter.
He said it would be a great tribute to the martyr who came back from the United States to India and joined the freedom movement.
Born and brought up in Sarabha village in Ludhiana district, Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha went to the US for higher studies, but came back to participate in the freedom movement.
He was hanged on November 15, 1915 at the age of 19.
