Senior BJP leader C P Thakur today stood by his remark giving "clean chit" to former chief minister Nitish Kumar in the alleged medicine purchase scam, but demanded an impartial, detailed and a neutral probe by a reputed agency like the CBI to bring the culprits to book.
"I am not going to repeat what I said yesterday, but I stand by my remark giving clean chit to Kumar in the alleged medicine scam," he told PTI.
When asked that his own party (BJP) has disowned his stand, Thakur refused to join issue with his party colleagues, but said that as far as he was concerned he stood by remark giving clean chit to Kumar.
The former Union Health minister, however, appeared to partially toe the party line by demanding an impartial, detailed and a neutral enquiry by an agency of repute like the CBI to bring the culprits to book in the alleged medicine purchase scam.
The probe must be held and guilty persons brought to book to clear doubts from the mind of the people of Bihar who have suffered lack of development due to innumerable scams over the past few decades, besides tarring reputation of the state and its people, he said in a statement.
Bihar cannot afford scams anymore, the senior BJP leader and its former state unit chief said.
Thakur had yesterday praised former chief minister Nitish Kumar for being a man of "honesty and integrity," besides giving him "clean chit" to him in the alleged medicine purchase scam.
