It is not yet known whether the movie, based on William Goldman's fantasy romance, would be made in to a musical or a play, said the Hollywood Reporter.
"To now have a stage production of this film in development at Disney is honestly a dream come true," Alana Horn, the Chairman of Walt Disney Studios said.
'The Princess Bride' which starred Robin Wright, William Shawn, and Cary Elwes, was fodder for a musical once before.
Attempts to turn the movie into a Broadway production ran into obstacles in 2007 due to the creative disagreements between composer Adam Guettel and Goldman.
