Such incidents had taken place earlier too, but the number was substantially less. There has been a sudden spurt in such cases in the past few weeks when oil was stolen from 70 transformers in different areas covered by BSES, said a spokesperson of the discom.
"The company has written to senior police officers seeking action against gang of oil thieves. On its part, BSES too has increased surveillance and deployed teams to keep an eye on such thefts," he said.
Cases of theft of oil from transformers have been reported from Neb Sarai, Sarita Vihar, Palam, Raghubir Nagar, R K Puram, Baldev Park, Nirman Vihar and some other areas, he said.
