The three accused were identified as Mohammed Qasim, 24, Anil alias Golu, 19, and Rakesh, 20, all residents of neighbouring Tikri Village, said DCP (Southwest) M S Randhawa.
Qasim has four criminal cases registered against him. He led the attack on Saturday night with seven of his associates. The group went on a rampage attacking locals in B block of Sangam Vihar indiscriminately with sticks and knives, said a police official.
Police are trying to ascertain the identity of the other five accused involved in the incident, in which four locals sustained stab injuries.
Had they been associated either with assassinated gangster Raju Ramakant Rao or Deepak Pandit (arrested) who carried out the attack, they would have targeted rival gang members and not locals in random, said the official.
It seems that these goons are trying to take advantage of a vacuum created by the absence of any gangster in Sangam Vihar presently, said the official.
A case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC was registered against several persons and the matter is being investigated, police added.
