The incident took place yesterday when the child, Devanand, was pulled down to the court yard from veranda of the house by the dog before biting severely on his eyes, lips and back.
Doctors at the Angamaly Little Flower Hospital said his eye lids have been seriously damaged in the attack and said no immediate surgery could be carried out as the child has to be administered anti-rabies vaccination.
The boy was rescued by local people from the violent dog yesterday. He was initially taken to a private hospital in Kothamangalam from where he was referred to a Medical College.
The incident created a sense of shock in Kerala society with local TV channels playing it as a major news item.
Meanwhile, Kerala government has announced that it will bear the expenses of treatment of Devanand.
