After two months of strained ties between her and her former second-in-command Mukul Roy, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today said there was "nothing wrong" in the party's accounts under him.
Speaking at a public rally here, Banerjee said she had not seen the party accounts personally and as a person (Roy) was entrusted to look after it.
"Now he (Roy) is not there. He never used to talk about it (party accounts) with me. I never questioned him as he was entrusted by the party. Now after hearing all this, I am personally looking after all this (party accounts). But after overseeing everything, I can see there is nothing wrong in it (accounts)," she said.
"A lot of things are being said about TMC's income. We have done no wrong. I challenge you people to prove if any wrong has been done. I show everything in income tax returns.
"If someone has committed any crime individually, then it is his fault. We have nothing to do with that," she added.
Banerjee's remarks came a day after TMC submitted documents to CBI. The documents were submitted three days after the agency re-sent a notice to the party seeking details of the party's accounts.
Roy, once All India General secretary of TMC and number two of Trinamool Congress, fell out with her after CBI arrested various TMC leaders and a minister. He was sidelined in the party and his wings were clipped.
Putting to rest reports in a section of the media that West Bengal assembly poll, which is slated to be held next year in May, may be preponed, she said it will be held on time.
"We have worked hard in Kolkata Municipal Corporation area to provide the citizens the services. We came to power in the state in 2011 and we won the KMC Board in 2010. We didn't get much time but still we worked hard. We will be going to assembly polls next year," Banerjee added.
