A memorandum of understanding was today signed by officials of Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board and IIT-Madras in the presence of State Environment Minister M C Sampath to operationalise the centre, which will come up at a cost of Rs five crore, an official release here said.
Sampath had announced in the State Assembly that the Centre would be set up as it was becoming a challenge to regulate emissions produced by growing number of factories.
A technical committee, headed by TNPCB Chairman, would be established to guide the Centre, it said.
Once the Centre becomes operational, emissions produced from factories, small and medium industries in particular, would considerably reduce, the release said.
