VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan, who represents Chidambaram constituency in the Lok Sabha, called on Gandhi at New Delhi and had a 45-minute discussion with him during which he submitted a memorandum to the Congress leader.
"I request you to take necessary steps to announce the support of the Indian government for the UNHRC (United Nations Human Rights Council) resolution seeking international independent inquiry for the genocidal killings of Sri Lankan Tamils," he said in the memorandum which was released by his party here.
The VCK leader also asked Gandhi to use his 'good office' to introduce and pass the Prevention of Atrocities (POA) Act Amendment Bill in the current session of Parliament.
