Two-and-a-half-years-old Mahi was playing inside Navsheel Apartment late last night when a hyena from the nearby jungle entered through a broken boundary wall and took away the child, Kalyanpur police SHO Santosh Singh said.
Singh said when the residents of the society saw the child, they followed the animal with sticks in the jungle.
After about 500 metres, the hyena left the toddler with serious injuries to her neck.
With the help of the police, family members of the girl took her to a nursing home where the doctors declared her dead, the SHO said.
