Delhi Police today chargesheeted suspected top Lashkar-e-Taiba men Abdul Subhan and two others, including a Pakistani national, for allegedly conspiring to kidnap businessmen from various places for funds to buy arms to carry out terror strikes in the national capital.
Special Cell of Delhi Police, in its charge sheet filed before Additional Sessions Judge Reetesh Singh, named Subhan, his nephew Ashabuddin and Pakistani national Arshad Khan as accused and charged them for offences of criminal conspiracy under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
"From the investigation...It is established that accused Abdul Subhan, as a member of banned terrorist organisation LeT and being the main conspirator in this case, entered into a conspiracy along with other co-conspirators for commission of terrorist act in Delhi with intent to threaten the unity...And sovereignty of India and with intent to strike terror in the people in India," the police said.
Regarding Ashabuddin, the police said he had "voluntarily and actively participated" in the conspiracy and planned to execute the terrorist act, while co-accused Arshad Khan had provided him the phone number of wanted LeT man Javed Baluchi for waging 'jihad' in India.
The police had earlier chargesheeted Rashid and Shahid, who were arrested in December 2013 from Haryana's Mewat region, in connection with the case.
With the arrest of Rashid and Shahid, police had claimed to have unearthed a terror module of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) which was at an "advanced stage" of planning a major strike in Delhi. The police, in its chargesheet against Subhan and two others, claimed Subhan was associated with LeT since 2001.
Subhan was arrested by the police on July 20 last year while Arshad is lodged in Kolkata jail in connection with shoe baron Partha Roy Burman kidnapping case of 2001.
Ashabuddin was arrested in the case after he was produced before the court here from Kolkata Jail where he was serving life term for his role in Partha Roy Burman kidnapping case.
The court has fixed the charge sheet for consideration tomorrow.
