In view of increasing menace by commercial goods vehicles during night, a special drive was launched by the Traffic Police from 9 pm last night till 4 am today, said Special Commissioner (Traffic) Dr Muktesh Chander.
More than 1000 Traffic cops supervised by senior officers manned the pre-identified roads including Delhi-Gurgaon Road, Mathura Road, GT Karnal Road, Rohtak Road, Ghazipur Road, Ring Road, Outer Ring Road, Mehrauli Badarpur Road and Nazafgarh Road to catch the traffic violating vehicles specially commercial vehicles, he said.
In 2014, a total of 1629 fatal accidents including 825 during night were reported. Total of 396 hit and run cases were recorded.
This year, upto June 30, a total of 750 fatal accidents including 396 during night, have been reported. These include 166 hit and run cases, said the officer.
