The haats where people from both the countries within a 5 km radius of the border would sell their local produce were envisaged at Kasba in Sipahijala district and Srinagar in South Tripura district to be set up at a cost of Rs crore each.
"We are now waiting for approval of the Bangladesh government to set up two border haats, the decision for which was taken at the prime minister level meeting of the two countries," Minister for Industries and Commerce, Jitendra Chowdhury said today.
"After Bangladesh approves them, the two haats will be constructed," Chowdhury said.
The state government, he said, had sent a detailed project report to the central government.
Stating that opening of two border haats in Meghalaya has boosted trade between the two countries, Chowdhury said the bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Tripura would increase with the setting up of the two markets in the state.
Chowdhury said, the haats would be set up on the zero line of the international border.
