Telangana Congress today warned the TRS Government against what it called rising frustration and anger among students in the wake of mounting "fee reimbursement dues".
N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President, said the State Government has been "neglecting" repeated appeals by over 14 lakh students and their parents seeking clearance of their "fee reimbursement dues" which had been mounting.
He was speaking at a dharna organised by the Telangana Youth Congress (TYC) here over the fee reimbursement issue.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has apparently decided "not to react" to the problems being faced by lakhs of students, their families and also to the sufferings of nearly 2.5 lakh employees of private colleges which are on the verge of closure, Reddy said.
"The TRS Government has become so non-responsive and insensitive that it is not even trying to understand the pain of nearly 20 lakh families in the State. This is highly intolerable. Congress will become their voice and its cadre would not rest until the Government clears fee reimbursement dues," he maintained.
The Rao Government's insensitive stand has caused frustration and anger among students, he said, adding the State owes nearly Rs 3,000 crore towards fee reimbursement dues pertaining to academic years 2014-15 and 2015-16.
Lakhs of students, who completed their studies, were being denied certificates by their respective colleges which consequently affected their placement, he added.
Reddy threatened to intensify agitation on fee reimbursement and unemployment issues.
The sit-in was also addressed by former Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy, TYC President Anil Kumar Yadav and other senior leaders.
