Two-day seminar on SME held

A two-day international seminar on 'Management of Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) in Global Era' concluded here today with participants deliberating on challenges and future opportunities in the field of SME.
The seminar, organised by National Institute for Micro, small and Medium Enterprises, University of Maribor, Slovenia and other leading educational groups, will witness paper presentations, discussions on varied topics with over 300 professionals from field of academics taking part in it.
Inaugurating the seminar, Vice Chancellor of Gujarat Technological University Dr Akshai Aggarwal said players in the SME sector must take lessons of recession in Greece and ongoing economic turmoil in European countries which has severely affected the SME sector there.
"Gujarat, with its strong tradition of business and entrepreneurship, abundant natural resources, and good infrastructure, has a thriving SME sector. 15 per cent of the total operational MSMEs in the country are in Gujarat. The MSME sector accounted for 28 per cent of the Gross State Domestic Product in 2011," he said.
Founder of an educational group in the city, Jayesh K Patel said that for meeting the target of new government to generate ten lakh jobs in the country, there is a need for setting up of more than 10,000 SMEs every year which will give jobs to unemployed youth.
Minister Plenipotentiary - Economic Affairs, Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in New Delhi, Mojca Hrovatic in her address said that the recession has adversely affected MSMe units in Slovenia. However, economic conditions for SME sector is different in India than that in her country.
