52-year-old surveyor Ramesh Sarkate, attached to the Thane city survey office, had demanded a bribe of Rs 3 lakh from the complainant to survey his land, Deputy Superintendent of Police, ACB Thane unit, Sanjay Mohite said in a release.
After negotiations, the amount was brought down to Rs 1.50 lakh. Following a complaint, a trap was laid this afternoon in the market area here and a private person Sandeep Khandekar was arrested while accepting the bribe on Sarkate's behalf, the officer said.
A case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1998 was registered against the duo and investigations are underway, officials said.
