The parents of the child, hailing from Tirupur, had noticed the reflex in the eyes and brought him to a private eye Care Hospital here.
On examining, white mature cataract was found through the dilated pupil with presence of Nystagmus, a condition where the eyeball moves constantly in a jerky fashion which hampers the vision on fixing, Dr L Srinivasan, Medical Director, told reporters today.
As the cataract blocked the light entering into the eye, the percentage of vision deprivation had increased and the child was put under general anesthesia and removed the cratact from both eyes, he said.
Congenital cataracts usually were diagnosed in newborns and intrauterine infections, metabolic disorders and genetically transmitted syndromes were some of the factors that caused cataract, Srinivasan said.
