The Directorate of Revenue
Intelligence (DRI) slueths today arrested two smugglers with Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) with the face value of Rs 7.98 lakh from Bihta railway station in Bihar's Patna district, officials said.
Acting on a tip off, DRI sleuths intercepted two smugglers, identified as Sitanath Sarkar and Rafiul Sheikh, from Bihta railway station premises and seized fake currency notes with face value of Rs 7.98 lakh in the denomination of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 respectively, they said.
The smugglers duo, hailing from West Bengal's Malda district, had brought the fake notes contained in ten bundles wrapped in a Bangladeshi newspaper, they said.
The two were travelling by Farakka Express on way to Etawa in Uttar Pradesh to deliver the consignment to local conduits, but had got down from the train at Bihta apparently suspecting that they were being trailed by the DRI sleuths, they said.
