In the wake of increasing violence and civilian killings in Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir's top decision making body -- Unified Headquarters -- will meet on June 17 in Srinagar to review the security situation.
"The Uniform Command (Unified HQ) conference will be held under Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir in Srinagar on June 17 to review the security situation in the state," PRO, Defence Northern Command, Col S D Goswami told PTI today.
Unified Headquarters comprises Army, para-military forces, police and state and central intelligence agencies. State Chief Minister is the chairperson of the group.
Apart from Northern Command Chief Lt Gen D S Hooda, General Officer Commanding (GOC) XVI Corps Lt Gen K H Singh, GoC XV Corps Lt Gen Subrat Saha and GoC XIV Corps Lt Gen B S Negi are likely to take part in the conference apart from top officials of others security agencies.
The meeting is likely to review the security situation along the Line of Control in the backdrop of a rise in infiltration bids, sources said.
The meeting assumes significance in the wake of increasing cases of violence and killings of civilians by militants in Kashmir Valley as well as infiltration bids.
Four civilians have been killed in last one week by militants in Sopore belt of North Kashmir.
The meeting on June 17 will be the second meeting of Unified Headquarters in three months.
After assuming charge, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had chaired his first meeting of Unified Headquarters on March 12 in Jammu during which all issues related to security and law and order situation were discussed.
