Unruly scenes in KMC budget session

The budget session of Kolkata Municipal corporation today witnessed unruly scenes when opposition Congress and CPIM councillors demanded resignation of Mayor Sovan Chatterjee whose name figured in the Narada sting operation.
Congress and CPIM councillors shouted slogans against the Mayor when he presented the budget and demanded his resignation.
The TMC councillors tried to stop the opposition members from raising slogans and disrupt the house proceedings.
The heated exchange of words between the two groups soon snowballed into a scuffle.
Later, opposition councillors staged a walkout.
Senior Congress councillor Prakash Upadhyay said, "A person whose name figured in Narada scam is unfit to become Mayor. We demand his immediate resignation".

The Mayor said, "We are here because we have the mandate of the people. They tried to disrupt the proceedings, but could not stop us from presenting the budget. They should have maintained the decorum of the house when the budget was placed."
The Calcutta High Court yesterday had ordered a preliminary inquiry by the CBI into the Narada sting operation in which several TMC leaders were seen allegedly taking money.
