UP floods: Toll reaches to 76

The toll in Uttar Pradesh floods today increased to 76, with reports of 13 more deaths in the state where threat of spread of diseases looming in flood-affected areas.
While six persons died in flood-related incidents in Balrampur district, three in Bahraich and two deaths each were reported from Barabanki and Ballia districts in past 24 hours taking the toll to 76, official sources said.
More than five lakh population in 227 villages were affected due to flood in Bahraich district where relief and rescue work is being carried out by NDRF, PAC, SSB, police, revenue employees and voluntary organisations, a report from Bahraich said.

Diseases have started spreading in the affected areas where medical teams have been deployed.
District Magistrate Satyendra Singh said that with three more deaths, toll due to flood-related incidents has reached to 32.
He said financial assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh has been given to kin of the victims and two special helicopetrs of Air force were assisting in relief and rescue work.

Singh said the flood-affected area has been divided into 19 sectors and 200 community kitchens have been set up.
In Shravasti, around one lakh people in more than 144 villages are affected due to floods and crop on 8,000 hectare area has been destroyed.

Special team has been constituted to assess, loss of lives, property and animals.
Breach along side the river has started in half-a-dozen villages in Bhinga and Ikauna tehsils even as the water level has started receding.
According to report from Balrampur district, several villages have been marooned in Tulsipur, Utraula and Balrampur tehsils, even though water has started receding.
Report from Siddharth Nagar said that 1.39 lakh cusec water was released from Rapti dam on Nepal border in Shravasti district as a result Rapti, which had already swelled, was flowing five-feet above the danger mark.
Rapti's water was overflowing in Budhi Rapti due to which around 12 villages have been marooned.

According to report from Barabanki, two more persons died in flood-related incidents and Ghaghra was still flowing more than one meter above the danger mark at Elgin Bridge.
Around 80,000 people in 100 villages in Ramnagar, Sirauli Gauspur and Ramsnehighat tehsils were affected due to flood.
Breach was reported at four places in Ranipur-Alinagar embankment in Bahlolpur after which district magistrate Yogeshwar Ram Mishra has reached the spot and the repairing work has been started.
