UP govt to reply to SC over Majithia wage board implementation

Uttar Pradesh Minister Shiv Pal Singh Yadav assured the delegates of Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ) that the government will soon send a reply to the apex court on implementation of Majithia wage board in the state.
"I shall call labour minister and Chief Secretary and ensure that the report regarding implementation of Majithia wage board is sent as early as possible," Yadav said.
Addressing the two-day convention of Indian Federation of Working Journalists here, the state minister of Irrigation, PWD and Cooperatives noted that print journalism continued to play a poignant role in the society, despite the prevalence of various other forms of media.

He expressed delight that the intelligentsia discussed issues like corruption, intolerance, brotherhood etc at the convention and tried to find solutions.
IFWJ President K Subba Rao welcomed the encouraging remarks by the minister and hoped that immediate action will be taken by the state government on the issue of implementation of the Majithia wage board recommendations.
Secretary General of IFWJ,Parmanand Pandey talked about the excesses committed on journalists by the newspaper owners, ever since they have been asked to implement Majithia wage board.

"Majithia board recommendations have not been implemented by any paper in Uttar Pradesh," he said.
Pandey added that only nine states have submitted the status report on the recommendations.

Speaking at the convention, Haseeb Siddiqui, state unit incharge, voiced for the formation of a committee against attacks on journalists.
A Supreme Court bench, had earlier this year, upheld the recommendations of Majithia Wage Board for journalists and non-journalists on their pay structure and directed that the revised salaries be granted to the employees.
It had said that the revised pay structure be given to the employees from November 11, 2011 when the Centre notified the recommendations of the Board.
