Uproarious scenes were today witnessed in the Bihar Assembly as Opposition BJP members protested in the House alleging shortage of drinking water in the state.
As soon as the House assembled for the day, Leader of the Opposition (LOP) Prem Kumar made a mention of the adjournment notice moved by seven BJP MLAs for a special discussion on the shortage of drinking water which was rejected by Speaker Vijay Kumar Chaudhary.
Irked, the BJP legislators and their NDA allies trooped into the well of the House and shouted anti-government slogans.
The Speaker first tried carry on with the proceedings of the Question Hour amid din but as pandemonium continued, he adjourned the House till 2 PM.
Later, BJP members led by Leader of the Opposition staged a dharna on the lawns, in front of the main entrance of the Assembly. Some JD(U) MLAs also gathered at the portico of the House and shouted slogans against BJP and the Union government.
The LOP while talking to reporters outside the Assembly slammed the state government's decision to discontinue 'Chief Minister Handpump' scheme under which MLAs could recommend installation of handpumps in their areas.
Public Health and Engineering Department Minister Krishnandan Prasad Varma criticised BJP for creating a scene in the House over the issue.

As the Assembly resumed for the post-lunch session, all BJP members and its allies including Leader of Opposition Prem Kumar trooped into the Well of the House raising anti-government slogans for its failure to provide drinking water to the people of the state.
NDA members, who created a ruckus in the House, sat for more than two hours in the Well when the debate over budgetary demand of Rural Development Department was going on.
In the process, no cut motion could be moved by any BJP member on the demands.
The members with placards in their hands continued to raise slogans like "Bihar Ki Janta Pyasi Hai, Nitish Kumar Paani Do" (Bihar's people are thirsty, Nitish Kumar provide water), "Chapakal Yojana Chalu karo" (start tubewell scheme), "Garibon ko Peene ka Paani Do" (provide drinking water to the poor) and "Saat Nischay Dokha Hai" (Seven Resolves is a farce).
The opposition members clapped, shouted and hammered the reporter's table intermittently in protest and tried to disturb the proceedings, when members of the grand secular alliance were speaking on the issue.
RJD member Rajiv Kumar alias Munna Yadav and JD(U) member Binod Kumar Singh said the Opposition have neither concerns for the poor nor those who live in villages as they (NDA) were the ones who protect the corporates.
As Rural Development Department minister Shravan Kumar started giving his reply, the NDA members led by Leader of Opposition Prem Kumar boycotted the reply saying government was hesitant in replying to their queries.
Before boycotting the proceedings, Prem Kumar said there was shortage of water in the state, besides people were forced to drink water having fluoride and arsenic content.
Later talking to reporters, Shravan Kumar said the Opposition members could have raised the issue when the House debated on the budgetary demands of Public Health and Engineering Department.
