India's Varsha Sanjeev put up a tough fight before losing 2-4 to veteran Theresa Whitten of Australia in the knock-out round of 24 in the women's event of the IBSF World Snooker Championship, here today.
18-year-old Varsha showing good control of cue ball and kept on potting balls with precision and took the first two frames with breaks of 47 points in each.
Though Theresa won the third but it was Varsha who had the initial advantage in both the following frames but lost both in the last ball to go down.
Having recovered from the initial disadvantage, experienced Theresa made no mistakes thereafter and won the sixth frame comfortably to advance to the last 16-stage.
In another match Arantxa Sanchis of India blanked Anna Lynch of Australia 4-0.
Arantxa though could not make big breaks yet she was very consistent with her potting and safety play and slowly built up leads in every frame with small but useful runs to win comfortably.
In the men's category, besides Pankaj Advani the other Indians who made it to the last 32 round were Dharminder Lily and Faisal Khan.
While Lily blanked Antti Tolvanen of Finland 4-0 with great consistency, Faisal was stretched to the full length by young and talented Kok Leong Lim of Malaysia.
In the decider Faisal survived 4-3 from the jaws of defeat as Leong missed the regulation blue sitting on the platter.
Having displayed a debonair snooker yesterday to win 4-0 against Marcelo Silveira of Brazil with breaks of 51, 74 and 64, India's Rafath Habib posted yet another good win today against Walid Hamdy of Egypt 4-1.
Joy Mehra, who survived a scare yesterday, lost to Peter Francisco of South Africa 2-4.
Another Indian stalwart Alok Kumar started his campaign today with a 4-1 win over Englishman Graham Beardmore and advanced to the last 16 stage along with Rafath Habib in the masters category.
