"I would not like to comment over the issue until the Special Investigating Team submits a report in the case. They are likely to submit its report by June 30," said Bassi when asked about media reports that Vashishth died of bullet fired from his own gun.
The city police top brass had formed an SIT to investigate the case after Manoj Vashishth's family claimed that he was killed in "cold blood" in a "staged encounter".
Nine policemen, who were part of the team which had allegedly gunned down Vashishth, have already been transferred in the case to ensure a fare probe.
45-year-old Vashishth, who was wanted in several cases of fraud, was hit by a bullet in the gun fight with a team of Special Cell of Delhi Police on May 16. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.
