Rebel RSS leader Subhash Velingkar-led Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) has offered to project MGP leader Sudin Dhavalikar as the Chief Ministerial face for the upcoming Goa Legislative Assembly elections, if the latter's party forges an alliance with them.
"We have informally conveyed to Sudin Dhavalikar that he would be projected as CM face for the election, if his party (MGP) aligns with us (GSM)," Velingkar told PTI today.
GSM is an off-shoot of Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM), an outfit which has been on loggerheads with the BJP-led government over demand on making regional languages the Medium of Instruction (MOI) in elementary education.
Velingkar said that while GSM's proposal is still pending with MGP, it has in-principle agreed to have an alliance with Shiv Sena.
"We will be informing Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray during his Goa visit this weekend (October 22) that we are ready to align with them on seat sharing basis," he said.
Thackeray's visit which was scheduled on October 16-17 was postponed due to BRICS Summit in the state.
"The seat sharing would be discussed in a meeting that will happen after Thackeray's Goa visit," he said.
Shiv Sena has already submitted the proposal to GSM stating that they (SS) will contest on 20 seats.
About Dhavalikar, Velingkar said MGP has told GSM that they will take a call on the alliance only after notification for the election is issued.
"MGP has told the same to BJP too," he added.
MGP is currently in alliance with BJP in the state with two of its legislators inducted in Laxmikant Parsekar's cabinet.
Dhavalikar had recently ruled out possibility of aligning with GSM reiterating that the party will go with BJP for Goa polls which are due before March 2017.
