Vets threaten to boycott cattle vaccination

Kerala Government Veterinary Officers Association (KGVOA) has threatened to abstain from the next phase of administering vaccination to the cattle against the foot-and-mouth-disease beginning across the state from February 15.
Association General Secretary Dr Sreekumar said the state government had conducted 15 phases administering preventive vaccination to the cattle for the last nine years, but the foot-and-mouth-disease had been failed to be controlled so far.
Outbreak of the disease affected 67,000 cattle in the State and of these 5,386 had cattle died. According to the government sources, it caused loss of around Rs 30 crores.
The association wanted restructuring of the department while introducing special sections for the treatment and project implementation in the animal husbandry department.
The doctors also demanded implemention of the Geetha Potti Commission report and follow the norms for transfer of employees, creating new posts substantially to the Animal Husbanday department in Athma Project.
The association will organize "Rapakkal "(day and night ) agitation before the State Secretariat from March 1 to 14 and hold a protest march to the official residence of Minister K P Mohanan.
