Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das today said economy based on "gram udyog" (village industry) could be strengthened and villages should be developed by Mahatma Gandhi's "swadeshi" ideals.
Inaugurating the 'Rashtriya Khadi & Saras Mela' here, Das said only when villages were developed the state could be developed.
Mahatma Gandhi had believed in "swa-bhasha, swa-dharam and swadeshi" development mantras, Das said.
"While Gandhi's dreams could not be fulfilled so far, we have to fulfill them now," he saida.
"Along with following Gandhi, we have to follow his teachings, and khadi is a big step towards it. We have to encourage gram udyog," he added.
To prevent migration from villages, Das said small, medium and micro industries would be set up so that unemployment in the villages would end, adding the 2017-18 state budget would be aimed at eliminating unemployment and eradication of poverty through programmes of self-sustenance, an official release quoted him as saying.
Stating that the state government could not provide employment to everyone, Das said the government could impart skill and work was on through khadi board.
Women would also be trained, he said adding dairy farms would be opened in every block and cattle be given to them.
The chief minister said one should not leave their religion and culture because of poverty, the release said.
He said to bring in quality in lac and tussar products, specialists would be roped in and women and youth in villages would be connected with these sectors by bringing their produce to international fairs.
