The Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, Monday decided to impose no work, no pay against its agitating junior doctors who are on strike since November 17, sources in the institute said.
The decision on 'no work, no pay' would come into from Monday and will be imposed on those who have not worked after November 16, VIMSAR principal and dean Braja Mohan Mishra said.
The VIMSAR authorities have also sent an SOS to the health department to provide at least 60 doctors to manage the situation arising out of the ongoing agitation by the junior doctors.
The Junior Doctor Association (JDA) of VIMSAR, which is the largest health care facility in western Odisha, are on strike demanding removal of its director Ashwini Pujahari alleging that he has indulged in unlawful activities.
Mishra said the decision on 'no work, no pay' was taken in the disciplinary committee meeting of the institution in which heads of the departments of the institution were present.
The junior doctors are demanding removal of the director alleging he had indulged in "unlawful activities" like harassing and humiliating poor patients, conducting unproved experimental surgeries on poor and destitute patients without their consent and clearance of ethical committee.
The director had also supported self-proclaimed social workers who are attempting to create unrest in the institution, threatening the undergraduate and postgraduate students to implicate them in false cases and spoil their careers besides misbehaving with girl students in the name of moral policing, they alleged.
