VOC Port receives award for 2nd highest traffic growth

V O Chidambaranar Port Trust, one of the 12 major ports in the country, has bagged two awards, including one for achieving the second highest growth in traffic.
Chairman S Anantha Chandra Bose, and Deputy Chairman S Natarajan of V O Chidambaranar Port Trust received the awards from Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in Goa on June 4.
The other award bagged by the trust is for attaining second position in Results Framework Document (RFD) target in 2015-16 fiscal.
The port handled an all time record cargo traffic of 36.85 million tonnes (MT) during last fiscal and surpassed the previous year's achievement of 32.41 MT, registering an increase of 13.70 per cent. It crossed Shipping Ministry's target of 36.80 MT.
The port has also performed exemplarily in achieving the various parameters of the RFD targets to enhance traffic throughput, to augment capacity of the port, among others, port sources said.
