Vyapam scam: Youth Congress protests, demands CM's resignation

Mounting pressure on the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh over the Vyapam scam, Youth Congress today staged statewide protests demanding a CBI probe into the scandal and resignation of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
"A number of people allegedly involved in the scam have died in a suspicious manner and therefore, it should be probed by CBI and Chouhan should immediately resign from his post," state Youth Congress president Kunal Choudhry said.
Several politicians, higher officials and people from the state and outside are allegedly involved in the Vyapam admission and recuitment scam, which took place in medical entrance examination and recruitment in various government jobs. It should be probed by CBI, Choudhry said.

Youth Congress workers, some of whom were scantily clothed, staged the protest before the Vyapam office demanding probe by the central agency.
Besides Bhopal, similar protests were also held in Umaria, Mandla, Ujjain, and Jabalpur, among other places, he said.
The Centre had yesterday ruled out a CBI probe into the scam as troubles mounted for Chouhan after a woman trainee sub-inspector recruited by the state board, was found dead in a lake.

Congress demanded the sacking of Chouhan following the spate of mysterious deaths connected to the scam in the last two years that has rocked the BJP-ruled state even as the Chief Minister said it is "not fair" to link all such "unfortunate incidents" with the scandal.

BJP has rallied behind Chouhan in the face of strident demands by Congress for a CBI probe.
In a related development, the Supreme Court today agreed to hear on July 9 the plea of Congress leader Digvijay Singh and three whistleblowers seeking an apex court-monitored CBI probe into the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh.
"We can fix all the matters together. It will come on July 9," a bench comprising Chief Justice H L Dattu and justices Arun Kumar Mishra and Amitava Roy said.
Singh and whistleblowers -- Ashish Chaturvedi, Dr Anand Rai and Prashant Pandey -- have moved the apex court seeking a CBI probe under its supervision.

Yesterday, a group of lawyers and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kumar Vishwas had moved the court urging it to take cognisance of the massive scam. The court yesterday had fixed these matters for hearing on July 9.
The petition, filed by a group of lawyers, have sought removal of MP Governor Ram Naresh Yadav on the ground of his alleged involvement in the scandal in the state and recording of his statement in the case.
In his petition, the AAP leader had urged the apex court to take cognisance of the scam, contending that 45 people have died in mysterious circumstances in connection with the case.
