Zubin Wadia, who has served as an effects animator for upcoming musical fantasy animation "Moana", said he wants to direct a Disney film one day which would align with the Indian culture.
Zubin, who hails from Mumbai, currently resides in Los Angeles. He has been working in the animation industry for the last 20 years and worked on projects like "Meet The Robinsons", "Frozen", "Big Hero 6" and "Zootopia".
"I hope someday to align the Indian culture with Disney's magic of storytelling. I was born in a country where storytelling is part of the culture," Zubin told PTI in an email interview.
"I would love the opportunity to tell stories or use the various forms of technology mediums like virtual reality and build on memories to add to the legacy of Disney around the world."
Zubin has been working with Walt Disney Animation Studios for the past five years. In "Moana", which is about a young woman, who uses her navigational talents to set sail for a fabled island, Zubin has developed effects for the various aspects like water, geysers and sand interactions.
Talking about the challenges he faced while working on "Moana", he said, "'Moana' is a movie with incredible depth of effects. The effects department was tasked with a variety of effects ranging from realistic ocean, various beach shorelines, lava, geysers, destruction, sand interactions etc. which were intense but exciting to work on."
Auli'i Cravalho voices Moana Waialiki and Dwayne Johnson is Maui, the legendary demigod who sets off with Moana on her journey, while former Pussycat Dolls star Nicole Scherzinger plays Sina Waialiki, Moana's mother.
Ron Clements and John Musker have directed the animation project, Zubin said it was amazing to work with the duo as they shared their perspective and were always open to suggestions.
"True to the Disney culture, we had the opportunity to work closely with the directors. This opportunity helped in bringing their vision to the big screen. I truly believe that their openness allowed us to be creatively challenged which is a fantastic experience.
"It was a truly satisfying feeling; knowing you are an impactful part of the process."
"Moana" releases in India on December 2.
