Warrant issued against Kovai Corporation Commissioner

The southern bench of the National Green Tribunal today issued a warrant against City Corporation Commissioner for failure to appear before it in a case regarding shifting of a dumping yard here.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the official's response, the tribunal issued warrant against him to ensure his appearance on the next hearing on November 13.
The order was passed during the hearing of a petition by a man named Eswaran seeking to shift the more than 60-acre dumping yard at Vellalore, where 800 tons of garbage was being dumped daily, on ground that it created health hazard and environmental pollution.

Based on the petition, the tribunal had twice asked the corporation commissioner to appear before it.
However, he did not comply with the directive, following which the warrant was issued.
