WB Minister promises more state buses during festival time
"Money will not be a problem. We must purchase more buses to meet the growing traffic. We have thus asked the corporations to go ahead with their proposals," Transport Minister Madan Mitra said after a meeting with top officials of the five transport corporations.
Simultaneously 500 new buses would be introduced during the pujas by private parties and corporate sectors, besides in joint venture with the government, the minister said.
Mitra said that at present only 12 per cent buses were run by the state government against 88 per cent private buses.
"The state government is trying to double its share," the minister said.
Mitra also said that a delegation of truck owners gave him a memorandum urging the government to stop forcible overloading of truck by dishonest transporters.
Both roads and vehicles were being damaged because of overloaded vechicles and should be stopped, truck owners told him.
Mitra assured to look into the matter.
