WB pension body urges PM to initiate pension for the elderly

West Bengal Pension Parishad has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to initiate steps for giving pension to the elderly, particularly those who belong to the unorganised sector.
"We have made an appeal to the PM to start with an pension amount of Rs 2000 per month for the elderly, particularly those who belong to the urorganised sector. This appeal has been signed by over 5000 people from the state," Pension Parishad Chief Advisor Biplab Halim said in a statement today.
On the eve of 'World Elder Abuse Awareness Day' tomorrow, the Parishad aired concern over the abuse of elderly people in the family and outside.

"Security of the elderly, particularly those who are living alone is a serious law and order issue as was seen in several murder cases in Kolkata and elsewhere in recent times," Halim said.
The Parishad called upon civil society to initiate debates for generating awareness among the common people.
