We need to've unborrowed tunes to live upto RD legacy : Leslie

Advocating the need to promote original music, internationally known music-composer Leslie Lewis has said we need to have 'unborrowed original tunes and lines.'
Lewis, who felt the spark had been missing in the domain of unconventional music in recent times in the country, said if media does not come forward through its varied platforms, this mediocrity will haunt us.
"There are multiple platforms. Why can't the FM channels come forward to serve the cause of uncluttered music!", he said referring to the crowding of techno-rap brand.
The jazz king, who called R D Burman his mentor, said the musical geniuse's compositions were one which showed how to indigenize western tracks and influence film music but retaining the originality.

"R D was the one who facilitated my journey from a Kolkata night club to the Mumbai music scene. He was the one who spotted me, he was the one who helped me familiarize with the nuances of Bollywood music by inducting me in his musical troupe," he said.
"Think about tracks like 'Dum Maro Dum', 'Chura Lia Hain Tum ne Jo Dil Ko,' 'Mehbooba Mehbooba' you will realize what I am suggesting. There can't be another RD and without him in those years I don't know if I would have been what I am today," Leslie said recalling how he went to Mumbai more as a pauper in early 70s as the music scene in Kolkata was stagnating.

Leslie conjured up a live jamming session 'Pancham Studio' with RD's evergreen numbers with the troupe members like Bosco Monsorate (trumpet), Raj Sodha (Saxophone) in his first show to the city dedicated to RD's memory last week.
The 'Pancham Studio' was hosted by Euphony, dedicated in immortalizing the legacy of R D Burman.
