"The Secretary of Union Drinking Water and Sanitation ministry came to meet me today and said the Centre has decided to use Nirmal Bangla project of Bengal as a model for Swach Bharat," Banerjee told reporters.
'Nirmal Bangla' is Bengal's version of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan which was launched in October 2014. On April 30, 2015, Nadia becoming the first district in the country to earn open defecation-free status.
"West Bengal is doing a great job in the field of sanitation and drinking water," Parameswaran Iyer, Secretary of Drinking Water and Sanitation Ministry, told reporters.
