Speaking at the university's 175th anniversary service at Westminster Abbey yesterday, Lord Paul said: "we have a confident, distinctive and exciting vision. The university is keen to re-energise its civic role in Westminster and London, and its role as an ambassador for London around the world."
Noting that the corporate mission of the varsity is one of excellence, creativity and innovation for the benefit of wider society, he said: "Internationalism, employability and green-thinking are embedded in all we do. At home we celebrate our continuing success in widening participation, providing opportunities for all those with the talent to benefit."
He said the university is privileged to be able to celebrate its 175th anniversary at the Westminster Abbey which seems to be the very heart of London.
"The sense of history is almost overwhelming, as one would expect in a place that has been a focal point for most of the major events in London, and in Britain, for more than one thousand years. We pray that it will continue to do so for the next one thousand years and more," said Lord Paul, who is also the Chancellor of the Wolverhampton University.
