Pledging to make Delhi a world class city, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today said steps will be taken to turn the city into a "tourism hub" on par with developed global cities.
Inaugurating the 28th Garden Tourism Festival at Garden of Five Senses at Saket, Kejriwal said that promoting tourism will also generate employment.
"It would be our objective to make Delhi a hub for tourism. It would magnify not only the pride of Delhi, but it would also create the job opportunities," Kejriwal said.
The Chief Miniser also asked the tourism ministry to prepare a road map in this regard assuring that "all the impediments would be addressed by me".
Kejriwal was visibly impressed by the beauty of the garden that was developed by Delhi Tourism Transportation Development Corporation in 2003.
"Delhi as a tourism destination will not only be for Indians but also for people from across the globe. We want them to come and spend vacations here," he said.
The festival, open from 11 AM to 8 PM everyday, is scheduled to continue till February 22. Tourism Department has also arranged free shuttle services to ferry visitors from Saket Metro station to the venue.
Delhi Tourism Minister Jitender Singh Tomar, who was also present on the occasion, said that the theme of the festival was 'Landscaping with Hanging Plants'.
