The women said in the petition that they be allowed to sell their kidneys as they lack the resources to fund release of their husbands.

Syed Kareem, S Ravi, S Mallesham, S Hanmanthu, N Venkati and D Laxman, who were working in a construction company in Dubai, were convicted for murdering a Nepali security guard by a local court and each of them was awarded rigorous imprisonment of 24 years, the petition said.

The women claimed they had approached the victim's wife seeking pardon for the crime under the laws prevalent in Dubai, which she agreed to subject to the payment of Rs 15,00,000 in Indian currency (approximately).

Claiming that they did not have the resources to raise the amount and their requests to state and Central government elicited no response, the petitioners Rena, S Padma, Rajavva, Padma, Ellavva and D Padma approached the SHRC seeking its nod to sell their kidneys.

The SHRC on Monday issued notices to the NRI cell in the General Administration Department to submit reports by January 17, 2013.
