Stamping their disapproval in the way women were referred by the patriarchy and female abuses made light off, a host of young women professionals converged in a unique show of strength and disdain.
Donning the garb of Egyptian 'Heka' maiden - a divine force which denoted 'power' and 'strength' according to mid-eastern mythology - a group of chartered accountants, bankers, media professionals, pr executives, housewives and students joined a group of traditional belly dancers from the land of Sphinx and the golden sand.
"As the womb symbolizes the beholder of life, this traditional form of dance from Egypt is actually a paean to motherhood, or all the maternal instincts which characterize women," Ankita Sehgal said on behalf of the organisers.
"Thus we are celebrating both the physicality, sexuality of women as well as the mental strength. We can not be intimidated by glares and snide remarks in any situations and give it back," she said.
"This symbolises the mental strength to take on the abuser. We feel empowered like the mythological Ka in Egypt, when we can dance and act the way we like and don't get cat calls or stares," Soumili, a chartered accountant for 10 years, said.
Sukanya, a feature writer in a premier English women's magazine, said, "It's more about celebrating feminisim, it's more about showing women have as much the right to embrace life's funnier sides as men."
"We have brought the concept of time-travel where the old-world Egyptian architecture pops up under the 64 props drawing references from pharaos and ancient gods and set the backdrop for the women's only meet where they can let their hair down," a spokesman of Stadel, a boutique hotel and venue of the meet, said.
