Shubhankar Pramanick, a BA second year student attacked a girl who was going for private tuition at Pratappur with a sharp edged weapon at around 8 am, the police said.
After stabbing the girl, the youth took her scarf and fled.
The locals took the injured girl to Krishnaganj hospital.
The youth allegedly hanged himself from a mango tree with the scarf of the girl, the police said.
The girl has been discharged from hospital after treatment, they said.
The locals alleged that the youth was in love with the girl but the girl was avoiding him.
