Food Corporation of India (FCI) plans to sell 3.70 lakh tonnes of D category rice lying in its various regional offices across the country. The rice, over two years old, fulfils the prescribed standards of the prevention of the Food Adulteration Act (PFA), a FCI release said. The rice will be sold in lots of 10,000 tonnes or more at current above poverty line (APL) issue price of Rs 7,000 per tonnes plus tax as applicable. buyers will get the consignment on a gross weight basis and they will have to specify the region of purchase, it said. The maximum quantity will be offered from the northern region, where the FCI has an unused stock of 2.16 lakh tonnes. . A quantity of 66,000 tonnes is available in the eastern region and 61,000 in the south.
