Trading on the Calcutta Stock Exchange remained subdued and pivotals plunged further following lacklustre dealings. Consequently, the turnover was thin.
Sentiment was weak owing to the ITC Fera violations fallout and the arrest of well-known broker Ajay Kayan last week.
The 51-scrip CSE Index, which closed at 423.21 points on Friday, registered a fall of 5.67 points to close at 417.54 points. Index-based scrips like ITC and Reliance provided the impetus to the easy trend during the day.
The ITC stock, which has been the focus of attention, opened weak at Rs 289.50 after closing at Rs 297 on Friday, briefly touched an intra-day high of Rs 290 before declining further to close at Rs 287. Reliance Industries declined by Rs 7 to close at Rs 190.
